In this section we'll talk about magic and magic items from the setting of Severance.

  • Magic: magic users on the world of Severance are rare, no matter the kind of magic they use (arcane or divine). Though some races are more magical than others, this is not a world in which you see magic everyday with terrifying and outrageous displays of power.

Talking about characters with a single class, with respect to the PC classes with magical skills, the classes with lesser powers are more common (bards, paladins, rangers, monks, though the skills of those are more supernatural than magical). Other classes like clerics, sorcerers or wizards are much more uncommon, thus they have a great potential of power.

On the other hand, it's possible to find characters with a few levels of a class with magical skills, but those few levels will make their magical power very limited.

In general, PCs should be allowed to choose the classes they want if the choices are logical, though I'd suggest only a few members of the party with magical skills and above all, only one character from each of the magical classes at the same time.

  • Potions: even with that limitation, healing potions are something very common. In my oppinion it's due to a moderate number of Adepts or other characters with healing spells and the Brew potion feat, working hard into making healing potions (as business, it would be very feasible... not counting the cost on XP on each potion which would make it close to impossible!). The specific power of the potions would depend actually on the power of the brewer (usually, it should be easy finding Cure light wounds potions or Cure moderate wounds potions).

Other kind of potions moderately easy to find will be potions that enhance fighting skills or physical abilities (potions of heroism, potions of Bull's strength, etc).

  • Amulets and similar stuff: it's also possible (though more rarely than potions) to find magic items which protect from physical damage (any kind of armor enhancements, natural armor, etc). Also, magic items which protect from poison or illness (no matter if they improve abilities like Constitution or improving the user's saving throws).

  • Weapons and armors: finally, there should be also possible to find magic weapons and armor. Of course, it would be easier to find masterwork items, then +1 items, etc, with each step in power the chance to get any of those things becoming much harder.
