| The Sun And The Moon | |||||||
|
Band composed by the bass player and singer of the Chameleons -Mark Burgess- with the drummer John Lever and two ex-members of Music For Aborigenes, Andy Whitaker and Andy Clegg, both playing guitars, in 1987 after the split up of The Chameleons. Andy Clegg had previously worked with The Chameleons playing keyboards in some gigs.
The Sun And The Moon (1988)
The only LP -with the same name as the band- edited by them in 1988 in the same label where Strange Times was released, Geffen Records. Most of the compositions of this album were, nevertheless, originally created by both Andys on their Music for Aborigines era, and these improvs turned finally into SUN & MOON compositions. Intended or not by the artists themselves, this is by far the project most close to the sound and feeling of The Chameleons. Songs like The Speed Of Life, A Matter Of Conscience or more clearly This Passionate Breed, which closes the album evoke us the atmosphere of the tandem Smithies/Fielding, although both Andys create their own & personal style. The strong and ellaborated lyrics is also one of the highlights, songs where Mark tells us stories of common life in his country -A Picture Of England-, the disenchanment and distrust towards the politics -Peace In Our Time- or the hard country life -The Price Of Grain-.
Alive; Not Dead (1988)
The relationship of Mark Burgess and the Geffen company won´t take long, company where Mark Burgess was not comfortable anymore.This is why at the end of 1988 an EP is released with another record company containing four songs, three of which are of their own, with a less chameleons like sound and a version of Alice Cooper´s Elected. In this EP they try to get rid of the resemblances with The Chameleons. After the edition of this EP, Mark Burgess will decide to leave the band to look for new different sounds. The rest of the band will continue briefly as Weaveworld.
The Great Escape
Compilation of the debut album and the EP adding two out-takes from the first work, edited formerly in 1987 as b-sides of the singles. It compiles all The Sun And The Moon material in one CD with the exception of Elected from Alice Cooper due to copyright problems in the moments of the edition of this work. |
| The Reegs | ||||||||
|
When Mark and John decided to create The Sun And The Moon, the two guitar players of The Chameleons joined their efforts in a project called The Reegs (named after an Alien race which appear in the book Now Wait for Last Year by Sci-Fi writer Philip K. Dick) where they could explore new sounds. They recruited Gary Lavery and decided to have a drum machine instead of a real drummer. Their first release is a version of The Kinks´ See My Friends edited in a tribute compilation to this band and as a curiosity, it features Reg Smithies singing. After this, they edited two albums and two EPs.
The Return Of The Sea Monkeys (1991)
Debut album originally release in 1991 for this band including Velvet Underground´s All Tomorrow´s Parties which was edited in a tribute compilation of this band too, and a cover The Kinks´ See My Friends. For this album they decided to recruit a singer because non of them felt comfortable in the role of lead singer. This album has been rereleased in 2002 under Themus Records label.
Rock The Magic Rock
As You Leave (1997)
EP edited in 1997 including two previously unreleased tracks-As You Leave and Outer Body Experience- plus the instrumental JJ180 which opened the Rock The Magic World album. Songs with guitars in the Chameleons style dressed with a more technified sound and voices without too much personality.
You Told Me Before
Repeating the formula of the previous EP they include two new songs: You Told Me Before and The Nastyside plus Is There A Mother-In-Law In The Club?, which appeared on their debut album.
The Reegs Compilation
The Reegs release in summer 2009 all their tracks in one CD, containing also b-sides and alternative versions. A good oportunity to have all their discography if you weren´t able to buy their previous albums and singles

| Weaveworld | ||
|
Once The Sun and The Moon disappeared, due to differences between Mark Burgess and the rest of the band, John Lever, Andy Clegg and Andy Whitaker, tired of being compared to The Chameleons, recruit again Aki to substitute Whitaker at the guitars, meanwhile he plays the bass. Under the name of Weaveworld (named after a Sci-Fi novel by Clive Barker) they will try to get rid of the long shadow of The Chameleons. They will release officialy only a Single entitled Davy Jones, in memory of Monkees´frontman, a rock song with sharp guitars. On the Bside we can find a calmer precious tune called Out and Down wich surpasses the quality of the main title. Many songs, including the demos previous to the recording of the single and an acoustic session of three songs remain unreleased. Davy Jones (1992)

| Mark Burgess And The Sons Of God | ||||
|
After finishing with The Sun And The Moon, Mark Burgess decides to explore other musical paths leaving the bass and taking the guitar as the main instrument for the composition. Under the name of The Sons Of God all the musicians helping Mark will be included. Zima Junction (1993)
In 1993, Mark Burgess edits a compilation of demos recorded in a eight-track mixer with different people collaborating. The original idea was to take these demos as the first step for the release of a new album, but different problems with Midnight Music made Mark Burgess finance by himself the recording sessions, what ended in the rupture of relationships between the musician and the record company. Imaginary records convinced Mark to edit the songs as they already were, and so it was done. Not wanting to edit these songs only with his name, Mark added the name of The Sons Of God -took by a book by Thomas Lethbridge-. The title, Zima Junction, is based on the illustrations of one of the collaborators, Harry Horse, who was inspired by a poem of Yevgeny Yevtushenko. The project did not end in what Mark had in mind, but although a lot of difficulties had surrounded the project, the songs had enough quality and warmth to be edited as they were. In this work the sound is more acoustic than ever and the similarities with The Chameleons get reduce to the voice of Mark who from this album he decides to leave the bass and takes the guitar for composing. This fact can be noticed from the very first listening, the bass guitar is now a secondary instrument. The version of Facades, original from the composer Philip Glass is one of the highlight of this work, which enhances the kaleidoscopic character of this album.
Manchester 1993 (1993)
The same year it is edited a live album of Mark Burgess and The Sons Of God. John Lever appears in the drums and Yves Altana, who will work with him in the future, playing guitars. The aim of this album was to revisit the Chameleons era songs although it had a very limited edition and a direct distribution to the public dring the gigs of Mark Burgess in 1994. Another try to capture the spirit of The Chameleons without The Chameleons.
Spring Blooms Tra-La (1994)
Another compilation of chameleons songs edited exclusively in Germany by Strangeways Records including in a limited edition a second CD with four songs belonging to the Manchester 1993 work. This time we can enjoy of great songs like The Healer, Time, or even the electric version of Tears which rarely are performed live apart from two songs belonging to the Zima Junction work: World On Fire and Happy New Life. |

Paradyning (1995)
Edited by Dead Dead Good Records in 1995, Mark shares name with the guitar player, Yves Altana,who was with him in The Sons Of God and who, this time, has a much more important role than a a simple collaborator, as he was before. John Lever keeps on hitting the drums and Mark is concentrated on the guitars too, although he takes the bass guitar for some songs. The album openes with the two singles, Sin and Always Want, the latter a slower piece. Adrian Be is one of the highlights of this album, dedicated to Adrian Borland -exleader of The Sound and by then, still alive-. The arregements of Money Wonīt Save Your Soul are impressive too. The album cover is based on an engraving of a Mayan tomb.
Paradyning Live Frankfurt 96 (2002)
With The Chameleons already resurrected in 2002 it is edited a live compilation of a 1996 gig in Frankfurt of this band. Songs from their last work, looking back at the past in Home Is Where The Heart Is , Is It Any Wonder? and This Passionate Breed . A collectors work. Alive 05 (2005)
After the second demise of The Chameleons in 2003, Mark Burgess joins efforts again with his old friend Yves Altana for their future projects. Some gigs in 2005 result in the recordings of a rehearsal in October of 2005 in front of a specially invited audience. No new material is played on this gig; just a brief look at the past with live versions of tunes belongig to The Chameleons, The Sun and the Moon, MB & The Sons of God and Invincible.

Venus (1999)
The last project of Mark Burgess before the reformation of The Chameleons, with a harder and more electric sound than Paradyning. This time Mark and Yves decide to change name for this album called Venus, their only work in studio as Invincible. Mark takes again the bass guitar, meanwhile Yves is now the only guitar player and they are helped by Geoff Walker at the drums. They released Dangerous as a single in mp3 format of free distribution through their web page. You can find it too in our downloads section.
Black And Blue (2002)
The last effort of the authors, with the band dissappeared, to calm down the fans´ thirst of everything related to The Chameleons. The same songs from their debut album, this time played live. Another work for hungry collectors. |
| Recognized |
|
New project of Yves Altana after disbanding Invincible in 1999. On his web site http://www.recognized.net/ there is available a song in mp3 format for free distribution. Yves has been involved in producing projects. He has produced Portal, the last work from an electronic pop Manchester band called Gabrielles Wish. |

Beefpig (1999)
At the end of 1999, the drummer of The Chameleons, John Lever, edits an EP with six songs named Beefpig. In the compositions and arragements he is heped by Paul Denheyer. An ecletic work which include electronic rythms with a dark ambience like the instrumental Bumper, or melodic pop songs like Love Yourself.
The Wishville Album (2004)
In 2004, John Lever, the drummer of The Chameleons, releases a compilation with all his collaborations out of The Chameleons. This CD has no distribution channel. It can only be purchased directly from the artist through this email address: pod@arcmusic.freeserve.co.uk BUSHART - Yesterday´s History (2008)
BUSHART is formed by John Lever at the drums, Steve Foxcroft & Chris Oliver at the guitars, Ray Bowles at the bass and Mark Cochrane at the keyboards. Yesterday is History is a fantastic debut album with a lot of energy and tension, mainly due to the guitar work and the strength of the vocals. This is one of the best and most interesting albums of the side projects of the Chameleons members. Don´t miss it.

| Dave Fielding | ||
|
Dragonfly´s and Butterfly´s (2003)
EP released by Dave Fielding in 2003 and which can only be purchased directly from the artist himself. The first two songs are new, but the rest of them belong to when he was in The Reegs, and they have been re-created for this occassion. Betrayal, opens the EP with jungle ambience meanwhile Stone has hypnotic-trance rythms with a little aftertaste of Kraftwerk. The instrumental version of Bosnia explores calmer soundscapes, and Snooker Hooligan is the only rock song, with electric guitars. A work that escapes from the past and explores new ways of creating music for this artist. |
